In late May 2020 I was at the local park, socially distanced from our friends, when one of them asked why I was wearing pants. I said it was proper etiquette to wear pants when out in public but what he meant was why was I in pants instead of shorts. “There’s a rule that states that from Victoria Day to Labour Day you can only wear shorts.” This was news to me but from that day forward I have worn shorts every day from Victoria Day to Labour Day – rain or shine, cold or hot, it doesn’t matter. The rule must be followed. Do you have any silly rules like this in your life? Please reply and let us know – we’ll share some of the best, and perhaps adopt them ourselves!
TwinPro World HQ Happenings
- The digital diecutter was ordered and is just sitting in a warehouse waiting on ESA approval. That should come through next week and then it will be delivered. Woo!
- The new desks for prepress are all assembled and in use. It totally changed the look of the department. Next up is a fresh coat of paint and patching the hundreds of holes from various pins and posters that have been on the walls over the last 25 years or so. Time flies!
- Tarrifs are not really having an impact on our business directly – we source our raw materials from Canada or overseas. Our American suppliers all seem to have non-US locations so for now it’s a non-issue. Indirectly we are seeing lots of changes in with the businesses of our clients and that impacts us with changes in work volume.
Doors Open
This weekend is Doors Open TO – for those in Toronto it’s your chance to check out the insides of some buildings that are otherwise closed to the public. When I first moved to Toronto and learned of this program it was a highlight of the year for me as I love seeing inside places, and getting a sense of their history and what life was like, and is like, for the folks working there. This weekend I am really looking forward to checking out a building in my neighbourhood, and Billy Bishop Airport.
Unlike the buildings that have their Doors Open tomorrow, our doors are always open. If you want to come over and see what we do, how we do it, check out the new equipment I’ve been touting in these emails, reply to this email and we’ll set up a time.
TwinPro Who’s Who
In his own words, meet Drew:
- I’m a graphic Designer at TwinPro Graphics and I live in Oakville with my wife and two 20-something year old kids (who won’t leave…).
- I was previously employed with Ontario Place Corporation, Dynamic Paints, and worked as a creative services director with an international HR company in Toronto’s financial district for almost two decades.
- I’ve been involved with sports my whole life: Playing youth soccer/hockey; high school wrestling team; and varsity rowing at Brock University, while completing my Business Marketing degree. I competed at the national level in kayaking, canoeing and dragon boating with the Mississauga Canoe Club. Later, I transitioned to snowboarding and wakeboarding where I rode in Canada’s first Wakefest in Bala.
- After blowing out my knees in my 40’s – 50’s via playing adult hockey and volunteer coaching, I’ve raised the white flag and have dialled things back: During the week I walk, swim and lift weights at my gym. On weekends I head up north to cottage country with my wife for hiking and kayaking adventures when the weather is warm and winter trail skating when it gets cold.
- I am a certified Scuba diver which fits in nicely, as my wife is slowly bankrupting me with her Caribbean travel/cruising addiction.
- When my kids tell me I’m not cool anymore, I head downstairs to my rock’n roll hall of fame man cave and play heavy metal on my guitars – that’ll teach them!
- My future goals include becoming a better guitar player than Dominic.
